When you will use computer ? You have to know some PC knowledge for computer hardware.
1. What will you use it for? - Everyone has different uses for their PC hardware. Some will want to use it as a media center with the ability to edit and manage home movies and music. Others want their computer to perform well for gaming. Then there are others who just want to use it to browse the internet, send e-mail and do some minor documentation. These are the 3 categories of computer users and you can be anyone of them or a mixture of any three.
2. Now what to buy- Depending on your uses for the computer will depend greatly on how much you are going to need to spend and what kind of performance is necessary. Even though Windows Vista is out, I still highly recommend Windows XP versions. Not only is it much faster, but it is in my eyes more functional and easier to use. Not to mention, less expensive. It will only be sold until June31st of 2008 so get it while you can unless you want to try Vista.
a. For those in the media center group- I would recommend a large hard drive of at least 500GB, minimum of 2GB of memory, a standard baseline video card, an average processor (2.0Ghz dual core or better) and Windows Media Center edition because of its useful tools for editing and managing your files. Hard drives are fairly cheap nowadays and a large hard drive upgrade is well worth the money. You may even want to consider having multiple drives to help organize your data better. Also, spend the extra money on a removable drive bay! If you are going to be saving so much precious data on your computer, you have to back it up in case of failure. There are many ways to do this but the least expensive is to just copy your files to a secondary drive with a tool like Allway sync and update it on a regular basis. You can build a complete system for around $1000 depending on your preferences. HINT: software is as expensive as the hardware.
b. For those in the hardcore gaming group - There is a good chance you already know what you want but I will go over some pointers to save a little bit of money. Most of your cost is going to be in video cards and processors. I have always tried to stay away from TOP of the line and do research to get good performance at a lower price. For example, the latest and greatest quad-core is going to be about $200 more than a quad-core that is two months old with only a minor performance increase. Honestly, most applications do not support quad-cores yet (they will soon) but if you are trying to save money now, get a fast dual core in a quad-core capable motherboard. Now you can spend upwards of $1500 on two SLI video cards to get major graphics performance and unfortunately this is an area where people are already decided. But again, do your research and you will find comparable products for much cheaper. The new ATI Crossfire is less than $300, supports DirectX 10.1 and is SLI compatible and will give you comparable performance to the popular Nvidia 8800 GTX. Please buy yourself two monitors, with so much power it is almost necessary to use it. Why not run ITunes while playing your games? Go to online stores for the best computers in the market.
c. Finally, for those who just want to browse- Go to Dell and look at their lower priced models. Find something with at least 80GB hard drive space, 512MB of memory and an included monitor. HINT: the cheapest models run Intel Celeron processors. DO NOT BUY them they are constrained greatly on memory and will max out when you try to do anything. This is processor memory not RAM. At the very least please get a 1.8Ghz dual core processor, you will thank me in the end.
In the end your purchase is up to you, I will be providing more useful tips in the future and go a little more in depth on these subjects. There are so many combinations of products out there that it can be overwhelming. Hopefully, with some of these tips you can decide on what to buy and how much you want to spend. Do some research, become knowledgeable about what you want, then shop around for a good price.
Don’t forget, no matter what you buy, you will always need anti-virus and some kind of firewall.
